About Our Cigars at Conch Republic Cigar Factory®
All
of our Conch Republic Cigars® are made with the finest quality tobacco
available for each variety.
Our Standard Premium and Roller’s
Reserve lines are made with a select blend of aged long-leaf Dominican
and Honduran tobaccos.
The milder Dominican leaf varieties provide for a smooth, mild base for each variety of cigar we make.
The more flavorful Honduran tobaccos (aged
three to five years) are selected to compose each cigar variety’s
characteristic flavor profile.
As a general rule, cigars with a “Ring” (circumference)
size of 45 or less will have a flavor profile emphasizing the lighter
fruit, floral and grassy tones of the milder leaf varieties; cigars
with a larger Ring size will emphasize the deeper earth and wood tones
of the stronger leaf varieties.
Both types will include smaller amounts
of the contrasting selection leaf, however, to provide the proper “balance” to
the blend and complete the flavor profile.
We use aged Connecticut “shade” tobacco for
our Natural wrappers and a very select Ecuadorian Dark leaf for our
Maduro wrappers. Natural wrapper leaf is shade grown in a cooler climate
to promote growth of a leaf that has wider spaces between the veins
of the leaf, and a very mild flavor.
Properly dried and aged, Connecticut shade tobacco is
the world’s best wrapper leaf; its mild flavor does not alter
the flavor of the cigar it wraps.
Maduro tobacco wrappers, on the other hand, do alter the flavor of the cigars they wrap. Maduro wrapper is sun-grown and allowed to develop its full flavor; Maduro wrappers will impart a slightly sweet (from the natural plant sugars in the dried leaf) vanilla tone to most cigar varieties.
We do not use long-leaf filler for our flavored varieties because the filler does not adequately absorb the flavoring.
For our Cigarillo, Ninito and Corona size flavor varieties, we use cigars made with a short-filler mix of our mild Dominican tobaccos, which promotes the absorption of the alcohol-based flavorings.
We use the finest quality Jamaican Spiced Rum, French Cognac, Kentucky Bourbon, and Madagascar Vanilla to flavor the cigars three times. After drying, the alcohol and water are evaporated, and the cigars retain the flavor compounds.
The flavor will vary naturally depending on how much the tobacco in any given area absorbed the flavoring alcohol during the three flavor applications.
Our Pequenos varieties are also made with short filler
tobaccos, but are artificially flavored (we can’t do “Peaches and Cream” naturally).
The cigars are flavored in the same manner as flavored pipe tobaccos
and the taste will be more consistent from start to finish. All of our
Pequenos varieties are hand-made in Key West by our Maestra Roller,
Ms. Norma Solis.
We are confident that the quality of our cigars, especially when compared with that of the very best Cuban, Dominican or Honduran cigars, speaks for itself. Why pay hundreds more for first quality cigars, when ours are so much more reasonably priced?
We back that confidence with a “One Hundred Per Cent Satisfaction Guarantee”,
and far less than one per cent of our customers have ever used it.
